Brazil goes for a sweep in beach volleyball

NEW YORK (AP) -- Brazil will have the top-ranked women's team in the world as it goes for a sweep of Goodwill Games beach volleyball gold medals.

The International volleyball federation's rankings released Monday showed Shelda Bede and Adriana Behar No. 1, after a second-place finish in a weekend meet in Marseille, France. They received the top seed in the Goodwill A pool.

Holly McPeak and Lisa Arce of the United States are the next highest-ranked team in the Goodwill field, at No. 4, and were placed atop the B pool, The tournament opens Wednesday.

The world's top-ranked men's team of Brazilians Guilherme Marques and Para Ferreira won the Goodwill men's tournament Sunday over American veterans Karch Kiraly and Adam Johnson.
