| Nicknamed "The Professor" due to his advanced age, 41-year-old Igor Larionov has accomplished everything in his career, making it all the more impressive that he called his game-winner "the biggest goal of my career". Larionov ended Game 3 at 1:16 a.m. EDT, five hours and two minutes after the puck first dropped at the Raleigh Entertainment and Sports Arena.

Brett Hull
Detroit Red Wings
1 goal, 1 assist, plus-1, 3 shots, 28:58 ice time, 39 shifts
| Brett Hull has scored a lot of big playoff goals in his career (the Cup winner in 1999 being the biggest of the now 99 to his name), but his redirection of a Nicklas Lidstrom shot with 74 seconds left must rank right up there, too. Hull's late goal gave the Wings fresh life and prevented them from going down 2-1 in the series. |

Arturs Irbe
Carolina Hurricanes
50 saves, .941 save pct. this postseason
| Arturs Irbe kept the 'Canes in the game through several defensive breakdowns and many excellent individual efforts by the Wings. Irbe got a lot of help from friendly, home-arena goalposts, as the Wings clanged five shots off the iron throughout the game. |
