Century mark Hull nets 100th career postseason goal in second periodPosted: Monday June 10, 2002 9:44 PMUpdated: Monday June 10, 2002 10:14 PM
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Brett Hull of the Detroit Red Wings became the fourth player in NHL history -- and the first without any Edmonton Oilers lineage -- to reach 100 career playoff goals when he scored against Carolina on Monday night. Hull, skating down the left wing, took Boyd Devereaux's cross-ice pass and one-timed a shot off the left goal post and into the net before goalie Arturs Irbe could react at 5:44 of the second period of Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals. Hull's league-leading 10th goal of these playoffs came on the Red Wings' first shot of the period and made it 1-0. The goal was Hull's second in as many games, and followed his tying goal with 1:14 left in the third period of the Red Wings' 3-2, triple-overtime victory Saturday. Hull trails Wayne Gretzky (122), Mark Messier (109) and Jari Kurri (106) on career playoff goal list. "Just to be mentioned in the company of those people -- such great players and such great performers -- I don't know," Hull said after the second period. "I've got to win a couple more to catch up with them."
