ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) -- New Jersey Devils center Joe Nieuwendyk was scratched for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup finals after warming up Saturday night.

Nieuwendyk has not played since early in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference finals against Ottawa because of a hip-related injury. The Devils have not disclosed the exact nature of the injury.

This was the first time Nieuwendyk dressed for a game in the finals. He skated briefly in practice Wednesday, a day before Game 5, but was pulled off the ice after it was determined he was not ready to play.

Nieuwendyk skated with his teammates during their pregame warmup Saturday and appeared to be skating better than he did Wednesday, but was scratched by coach Pat Burns several minutes before the game started.

Nieuwendyk is trying to win a Stanley Cup with a third team. He also won with Calgary in 1989 -- when the Flames beat Burns' Montreal Canadiens -- and with Dallas in 1999.
