SPRINGFIELD, Massachusetts (Ticker) -- Portland goaltender Rastislav Stana was named the American Hockey League Player of the Week for the period ending
Playing in his fourth professional season, Stana extended his personal unbeaten streak to six games with a pair of wins and a tie against Eastern-Conference opponents, including his third shutout of the season. In three starts, the netminder posted a 0.96 goals-against average and a .970 save percentage to help the Pirates extend their unbeaten streak to six games (4-0-2-0).
In a 1-1 tie vs. the Worcester IceCats December 26, Stana stopped 38 of 39 shots, including all 16 over the final 25 minutes to preserve the tie for Portland. The next night, the 23-year-old made 13 saves in the first period and finished with 28 overall in a 2-0 shutout of the Providence Bruins.
Sunday, Stana continued his outstanding play in a 3-2 overtime victory against the Albany River Rats. The Slovakia native extended his shutout streak to 127:34 and finished with 31 stops to improve to 7-1-2 in his last 10 decisions.
Through December 28, Stana was ranked second in the AHL with a .945 save percentage and was third in the circuit with a 1.66 goals-against average. He has also produced a career-best three shutouts, including two in his last four starts.
