Coyotes sign Briere to 2-year deal Posted: Tuesday August 06, 2002 3:44 PMSCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Ticker) -- The Phoenix Coyotes re-signed one of their best offensive players from last season, as center Daniel Briere inked a two-year contract Tuesday to avoid arbitration. Briere led Phoenix with a career-high 32 goals and was second on the team with a career-best 60 points. His arbitration was scheduled for Tuesday in Toronto. "Daniel is a talented hockey player and we are pleased to have him under contract for the next two seasons," Coyotes general manager Michael Barnett said. "His dynamic offensive skills inspired his teammates and thrilled Coyotes fans throughout the season last year. We expect to see much more of the excitement that Danny can generate." Briere will possibly play on a line next season with right wing Tony Amonte, who was one of the biggest acquisitions this offseason. The Coyotes surpised many as they signed Amonte, one season after allowing stars Jeremy Roenick and Keith Tkachuk to leave the team in cost-cutting moves. "I am very excited about signing with the Coyotes," Briere said. "With all the moves the team has made over the summer, I can't wait for next season to start. I really appreciate the effort management made to sign men and avoid the arbitration process." The 25-year-old Briere was selected by the Coyotes with the 24th pick in the 1996 draft. He has 53 goals, 47 assists and 96 penalty minutes in 190 games with Phoenix.
