Statistics through Jan. 17, 2003.
The assistant coaches of the team with the best points percentages in its conference through games of Wednesday, Jan. 8, were selected as coaches for the Eastern Conference YoungStars and Western Conference YoungStars, respectively.
Ottawa assistants Roger Neilson, Perry Pearn and Don Jackson will serve as Eastern Conference YoungStars coaches and join 2003 Eastern Conference All-Star and Senators' head coach Jacques Martin at NHL All-Star Weekend. Neilson will be returning to South Florida where he served as Panthers head coach during the 1993-94 and 1994-95 seasons. Vancouver assistants Jack McIlhargey and Mike Johnston will serve as Western Conference YoungStars coaches, joining 2003 Western Conference All-Star and Canucks head coach Marc Crawford.
The YoungStars players were selected by the NHL's Hockey Operations Department, in consultation with League General Managers.
The game will be played using five skaters and one goaltender per team and will consist of three 10-minute periods, running time with 15-second stops after goals. There will be a four-minute break between periods. If the score is tied after three periods, a sudden-death shootout will determine the winner. The Eastern Conference is the home team.
