Final score: 1,630-1,609 New Mexico amateurs play longest hockey game everPosted: Monday June 16, 2003 1:55 PMUpdated: Monday June 16, 2003 1:55 PM RIO RANCHO, N.M. (AP) -- New Mexico has solidified its place in hockey history. Amateur hockey players from all over the state completed what was not only the world's longest hockey game at 125 hours, but what organizers think was the highest scoring game. The final tally -- 1,630 to 1,609. Amateur teams in Breckenridge, Colorado, had held the length record with 101 hours since last year. The marathon game ended yesterday in Rio Rancho with a Father's Day celebration. For the last hour only fathers and their children were allowed to skate. The record-setting event also burned plenty of food supplies. Organizer Bob Pope says players drank more than 80 gallons of Powerade and 600 cans of Red Bull energy drink, and ate 125 dozen Krispy Kreme donuts and an unknown number of pizzas, cakes and sandwiches. |
