Lightning re-sign D Laukkanen Posted: Friday August 08, 2003 5:31 PMTAMPA, Fla. (Ticker) -- The Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday re-signed unrestricted free agent defenseman Janne Laukkanen to a one-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed. The 33-year-old Laukkanen was claimed off waivers from the New York Rangers on March 11 and appeared in Tampa Bay's final two regular-season games, scoring once, and two playoff contests. Laukkanen, a 10-year veteran from Finland who entered the NHL with Quebec and has played for Colorado, Ottawa and Pittsburgh, has 22 goals and 99 assists in 407 games. He started last season with the Penguins before being traded to the Rangers in February. "Janne Laukkanen is a talented, puck-moving defenseman who makes an excellent first pass, carries the puck out of the zone if necessary and can play the point on the power play with us," general manager Jay Feaster said. "He is extremely versatile and is also an outstanding team guy who puts the team's success ahead of his own personal statistics."
