WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Washington Capitals re-signed forward Michael Nylander to a one-year contract on Sunday, just before the sides were to have a salary arbitration hearing.

Nylander's deal will pay him $2,675,000 next season.

The 30-year-old center had 17 goals and 56 points in 71 games last season, when he earned $1.8 million.

In 10 NHL seasons with Hartford, Calgary, Tampa Bay, Chicago and Washington, Nylander has 139 goals and 294 assists in 630 games. He is second among active players with 310 consecutive games played.
