NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Tom Poti is under contract with the New York Rangers for the next two seasons after being awarded $5.9 million by an arbitrator Tuesday.

As requested by the Rangers, Poti was given a two-year deal in arbitration. He will receive $2.8 million in 2003-04 and $3.1 million in 2004-05.

Poti collected $1.8 million last season, when he tied for seventh in scoring among NHL defensemen, totaling 11 goals and 37 assists -- both career highs -- in 80 games.

It was Poti's first full season with the Rangers, who acquired him from Edmonton on March 19, 2002 in a four-player deal. The 6-3, 209-pounder was a fourth-round pick by the Oilers in 1996.

In 376 regular-season games, Poti has 39 goals and 122 assists.
