Thrashers re-sign center Savard

ATLANTA (Ticker) -- The Atlanta Thrashers avoided arbitration with Marc Savard, agreeing to terms with the restricted free agent center Wednesday.

Terms were not disclosed.

Savard, who was scheduled to have an arbitration hearing on Friday, collected 17 goals and 33 assists in 67 games in 2002-03, splitting the season with Calgary and Atlanta. With the Thrashers, he finished fourth in scoring with 50 points in 57 contests.

"Marc is a proven offensive player who excels at creating chances for his wingers," Atlanta general manager Don Waddell said. "He bolstered our top line and will continue to play a pivotal role in our success."

Selected by the New York Rangers in the fourth round of the 1995 draft, the 26-year-old Savard has 86 goals and 166 assists in 376 NHL games. He enjoyed his best season with the Flames in 2000-01, notching 23 goals and 42 assists, both career highs.
