SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- The Phoenix Coyotes hired two assistants Friday for Marty McSorley, the head coach of their American Hockey League affiliate.

Gord Dineen will be McSorely's principal assistant with the Springfield Falcons; Gary Shuchuk will join the Falcons as a player-coach.

"Gord and Gary are hard-working, knowledgeable hockey people that will be able to help our young players develop," Coyotes assistant general manager Laurence Gilman said.

Dineen, 40, played 13 seasons in the NHL with Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Ottawa and the New York Islanders, with whom he won a Stanley Cup in 1984.

Dineen also won three Turner Cups in five International Hockey League seasons before retiring after the 1999-2000 season.

He spent three seasons as a coach in the AHL and East Coast Hockey League.

Shuchuk, 35, played five NHL seasons with Detroit and Los Angeles, scoring 13 goals and 29 assists in 142 games, and then spent three years playing in the AHL.
