Rangers sign restricted free agent Carter

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- The New York Rangers agreed to terms with restricted free agent right wing Anson Carter on Monday.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old Carter, who was eligible for arbitration, scored 26 goals and had 34 assists in 79 games with the Rangers and Edmonton Oilers last season.

"Anson Carter is a highly skilled, versatile player who we feel will play a very significant role on our team this season," Rangers general manager and coach Glen Sather said. "He is a very intelligent player who brings a strong presence and leadership qualities."

Carter eclipsed the 50-point mark for the second straight season. He registered his 300th career point with a goal at Pittsburgh on February 18 and played in his 400th game at Florida on December 7.

Carter has scored 143 goals and 167 assists in 452 games with the Rangers, Edmonton, Washington and Boston.
