PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The Pittsburgh Penguins selected center Milan Kraft with the 23rd pick of the first round in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft Saturday in Buffalo, New York. Kraft played the last two seasons with Plzen of the Czech Jr. leage, totaling 88 points in 60 games. The 6-foot-3, 191-pound forward was ranked sixth among all European-born players by the NHL's Central Scouting Service, and was captain of the 1998 Czech Republic under-18 national team. Kraft is the third native of the Czech Republic to be picked by the Penguins in the first round, following Jaromir Jagr and Martin Straka. Jagr was 5th overall in 1990 and Straka was 16th overall in 1992.
