NASHVILLE (CNN/SI) -- It's been a busy day for Nashville Predators general manager David Poile. Poile not only spent Saturday at the NHL Entry Draft, but he pulled off a deal that landed highly touted prospect David Legwand and completed five other trades stocking the expansion team with veteran players.

Poile sent the third overall pick and a second-round choice to the San Jose Sharks to move up and take Legwand with the second overall selection.

Nashville also obtained centers Darren Turcotte, Jim Dowd and Sebastien Bordeleau, goaltender Dominic Roussel and defensemen Jeff Staples, Jan Vopat and Kimmo Timonen for draft picks or future considerations in other deals.

The St. Louis Blues sent Turcotte and a conditional draft pick to the Predators for future considerations. The 30-year-old center scored 12 goals and notched six assists in 62 games this season. The former 30-goal scorer also has played for the New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers, Winnipeg Jets and San Jose.

The 29-year-old Dowd was obtained from the Calgary Flames. Dowd had six goals and eight assists in 48 games this season.

Dowd, who recorded a career-high 20 points in 1995-96 with the Flames, has also played parts of seven NHL seasons with the New Jersey Devils, Vancouver Canucks and New York Islanders.

The 23-year-old Bordeleau was a role-player with the Montreal Canadiens last season. He collected six goals and eight assists in 53 games.

The Predators shipped a seventh-round entry draft pick to the Philadelphia Flyers to get Roussel and Staples, neither of whom played in the NHL this past season. The 28-year-old Roussel was 19-8 with a 2.09 goals-against average in 30 games while on loan to the Canadian National Team. He has not played in the NHL since the 1995-96 season with Winnipeg.

The 23-year-old Staples had four goals and 16 assists with 187 penalty minutes with the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League.

Vopat and Timonen were acquired from the Los Angeles Kings. The 25-year-old Vopat played just 21 games in 1997-98, picking up a goal and five assists. The 23-year-old Timonen was the 250th selection in the 1993 draft and had 10 goals and 15 assists in 45 games for IFK-Helsinki in his native Finland.
