NEW YORK (AP) -- Boston Bruins defenseman Ray Bourque has extended his NHL record for All-Star game starts to a dozen. Joining Bourque as North America all-star starters at the Jan. 24 game in Tampa, Fla., are goaltender Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils, defenseman Al MacInnis of the St. Louis Blues, center Steve Yzerman of the Detroit Red Wings and wings Brendan Shanahan of Detroit and Paul Kariya of the Anaheim Mighty Ducks. Bourque will be making his 17th career all-star appearance. Only Gordie Howe (23) had made more appearances. Wayne Gretzky also has 17 appearances, nine as a starter. Shanahan led all North America all-stars in balloting, receiving 252,955 votes to earn his third career start. Kariya, who also will be making his third career start, was second with 248,434 votes. MacInnis will be making his first start since 1992 and fifth overall, while both Brodeur and Yzerman will each be making their second career starts. Shanahan and Yzerman bring the number of Red Wings earning all-star starts to four. Defensemen Nicklas Lidstrom and Uwe Krupp were voted to the World all-star starting lineup. The last club to send four starters to the all-star game was the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1992 for the Wales Conference. The remaining players on the North America all-star team roster, to be selected by the NHL's hockey operations department after consultation with league general managers, will be announced Tuesday. The remaining players for the World all-stars will be announced Monday.
