SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (CNNSI.com) -- Phoenix Coyotes captain Keith Tkachuk will be in the lineup for Game 1 on Thursday against the Colorado Avalanche despite a questionable ankle.

Tkachuk sat out the final regular-season games as a precautionary measure.

"Keith has been ready for a couple games now," Coyotes coach Bob Francis told the Arizona Republic.

"We wanted to make sure -- sure in his own mind that he's ready -- so he's 100 per cent."

The coaches will monitor his ice time to an extent, but more importantly, they will check with him constantly after shifts to see how his ankle responds as the game unfolds.

Expect Tkachuk to once again be paired with Jeremy Roenick and newcomer Mikael Renberg on the team's top line.
