How should the Flyers handle coaching situation?

Roger Neilson will be back behind the Flyers bench in the second round, albeit as an assistant to interim coach Craig Ramsay. Neilson, who has been undergoing treatment for cancer, had hoped to be back last week but was kept off the bench by doctors and the team.
What's your take on this situation? Should Flyers GM Bob Clarke have been more welcoming to his ill coach, or was he right for thinking of the team first regardless of the sensitivity of the issue?
Should Neilson take it upon himself to stay away and avoid the risk of distracting the team? Or will his presence be another positive motivation?
