TORONTO (AP) -- Injured Toronto defenseman Bryan Berard intends to be in the Air Canada Centre for the second game of the New Jersey Devils-Maple Leafs playoff series Saturday night.

Berard, 23, has undergone several operations since being clipped in the right eye March 11 by the stick blade of Ottawa forward Marian Hossa. The retina was reattached last month, and Berard has been able to detect motion.

He will fly north from his parents' Rhode Island home to be reunited with his teammates.

His doctors don't seem worried about his traveling, said Berard's agent, Tom Laidlaw.

The Leafs are looking forward to Berard's visit.

"That would be so huge," Steve Thomas told the Toronto Sun. "Just seeing his face would be such an inspiration."

"It would be a huge lift to everybody," added Curtis Joseph.

Meanwhile, Devils forward Jay Pandolfo will wear a full face shield in Game 1 on Thursday. He suffered a non-displaced fracture of his left cheekbone when struck by the heel of teammate Scott Stevens's stick in the final game of New Jersey's opening-round sweep of Florida.

"I have to wear it, at least for a little while," Pandolfo said. "It's definitely a pain."
