Game 3 Quotebox
Devils coach Larry Robinson, on Dallas coach Ken Hitchcock's decision not to match his top line against New Jersey's No. 1 unit:
"I've got enough trying to worry about who I get out on the ice without having to worry about who Hitch puts out there. That line, when they are playing and the [Mike] Modano line is going, it makes for some pretty exciting hockey out there."
Hitchcock, on the turning point in Game 3:
"I thought we played a great first period and we lost energy on that [Jason Arnott] goal. I don't think that we played with the sense of desperation until halfway through the third period. I thought his goal, we missed some chances on those next two power plays, but his goal set us back a little bit."
Devils right wing Petr Sykora, on his line scoring both goals in Game 3:
"I think we had our best game defensively tonight. We were coming back, not only the third guy but the fourth and fifth guy was coming back very hard, too. I think that we don't want to give up the point, a lot of shots."
Devils center John Madden:
"We came into this building and we were looking for a split. But I think it's time to get greedy." "
Dallas left wing Brenden Morrow, on failing to score during a two-man advantage in the first period:
"That certainly took a little bit of wind out of our sails. You definitely look to score a goal in a situation like that, but we couldn't get it. It made it tough when they came back and scored on us."
Devils right wing Randy McKay on Stars goalie Ed Belfour:
"Eddie played great tonight. I thought we had some phenomenal scoring chances that he took away from us, and he kept them in the game."
New Jersey left wing Jay Pandolfo on his team's 8-2 road record in the playoffs:
"I think we keep it simple, just try to go out there and do the little things. Maybe we're not focused at home with all the family and stuff around, but on the road we seem to be focused."
Belfour, on the difference between the Devils in Games 2 and 3:
"They created more traffic in front of me this game and they were able to establish more screens. But it was not our best game, and we can certainly come out and play stronger in Game 4."
Devils defenseman Ken Daneyko, on the play of forwards Jason Arnott, Patrik Elias and Petr Sykora:
"They weren't happy with what happened in Game 2. They've carried us all season long and throughout the playoffs. They're our go-to guys. And again tonight they came up with big efforts."
Hitchcock, on his concerns following the Game 3 loss:
"I think what we are concerned [about] is our inability to outwork them in their zone. I think that sets up everything. It sets up their counterattack and a lot of their offensive push. We are not spending a lot of quality time in there. There's isn't enough sense of desperation."
