Teams leading 3-1 in the Finals

Since the NHL introduced the best-of-seven format in 1939, a total of 25 clubs have held a 3-1 series lead in the Stanley Cup Finals, with 24 winning the Stanley Cup. The only club to overcome a 3-1 deficit in the Finals was the 1942 Toronto Maple Leafs, versus Detroit. Toronto had trailed the series 3-0.

New Jersey improves playoff road record to 9-2

The Devils improved their playoff road record to 9-2 in Game 4, moving within one victory of the NHL postseason record that New Jersey set during their 1995 Stanley Cup run (10-1). The Devils have posted two wins at Florida, two at Toronto, three at Philadelphia and two at Dallas.

The Devils have yet to lose on the road in the Stanley Cup Finals, having defeated the Detroit Red Wings in both games played at Joe Louis Arena in 1995 (4-0).

New Jersey's three goals Monday night were the most allowed by the Stars at Reunion Arena in the 2000 Stanley Cup Playoffs (12 games).

Devils' rookie update

The Devils' second and third goals Monday night were scored by rookies John Madden and Brian Rafalski, respectively, with Madden's goal the shorthanded, game-winner. Madden led the League in shorthanded goals during the regular-season with six.

Six of the Devils' 15 game-winning goals in the 2000 Stanley Cup Playoffs have come from rookies: Scott Gomez (two), Madden (two), Rafalski (one) and Colin White (one).

Devils outshoot opponent for 18th time in 21 playoff games

The Devils outshot the Stars 31-17 for the game, including 15-4 in the third period, the fourth consecutive game they have outshot Dallas and the 18th time in 21 postseason games they have outshot their opponent. The shot totals for the Stanley Cup Final series through four games: New Jersey 116, Dallas 75.
