EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) -- Dallas Stars defenseman Richard Matvichuk was knocked out of Tuesday's playoff game after Edmonton Oilers captain Doug Weight slammed him into the boards from behind.

Weight received a five-minute major and game misconduct, carrying an ejection, for the hit at 10:50 of the first period. Daniel Cleary served the penalty, but Dallas did not score on the power play.

Matvichuk was skating backward out of the Oilers zone when Weight came in on an angle and drove him hard into the boards. Matvichuk's helmet flew off as he was hit and he remained motionless on the ice for a few minutes.

He was groggy as teammates helped him off the ice to the dressing room, where he received medical attention.
