Bruins' McLaren out with bad shoulder Posted: Saturday January 16, 1999 08:16 PM
BOSTON (Ticker) -- Boston Bruins defenseman Kyle McLaren, who missed the first 15 games of the season due to a contract holdout, will be sidelined two to three weeks with a separated left shoulder. McLaren suffered the second-degree separation in Friday's 2-1 loss at Buffalo. The 21-year-old defenseman has played only 24 games this season but is third among Bruins defensemen in scoring with five goals and four assists. In 1997-98, McLaren established career highs with 20 assists and 25 points despite missing 16 games with hip, knee, foot and groin injuries. The ninth overall pick in the 1995 draft, he was the youngest player to spend the entire 1995-96 season with an NHL team. But McLaren has been plagued by injuries since, missing 23 games in 1996-97 with assorted ailments.
