10 Questions

New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur

1. Who in the league just wears you out?

Martin Brodeur: There are a few guys. Jagr. Ziggy Palffy when he played for the Islanders. Mostly guys in the conference because they see you more often. Oh, Palffy is unbelievable. From anywhere. He feels pretty confident when he plays me, I'm sure.

2. How many of the Super Friends can you name?

Super Friends
The Hall of Justice and Legion of Doom
had many faces over the years.
Hall of Justice Legion of Doom
Superman
Wonder Woman
Batman (& Robin)
Aquaman
The Wonder Twins
(Jayna and Zan)
Gleek (a monkey)
Apache Chief
Black Lightning
The Flash
Hawkman
Green Lantern
Samurai
Bizarro Superman
Cheetah
Lex Luthor
Black Manta
Toy Man

Grodd (talking ape)
Solomon Grundy
Brainiac
The Riddler
Captain Cold

Martin Brodeur: What do you mean by that?

You know, Super Friends? The Hall of Justice?

Martin Brodeur: I have no clue. Not one.

3. You lost Gilmour last year, Andreychuk this year, Elias and Morrison are holding out ... Who's going to score goals for this team?

Martin Brodeur: The guys we count on will be Jason Arnott, Randy McKay, Bobby Holik. These are the guys that are asked to do well offensively for us.

4. What's your reaction to the new crease rules?

Martin Brodeur: I don't know about it. It makes it a lot more crowded. A lot of people will take advantage of it and maybe abuse it a little bit. It makes our job a lot tougher. If a guy moves in there and you have contact, there's no penalty. If a guy is just standing in there and we're coming across and there's contact, they're gonna move out of the way and there will be a goal but no interference. It will be tougher for goalies and especially for smaller goalies, it will be tough.

Ice capades: Martin Brodeur looks forward to road trips to Florida and days off for holidays. Al Bello /Allsport

5. How would you have called Brett Hull's goal?

Martin Brodeur: Good goal. No doubt about it. You don't go that far in the playoffs, that far in a game to disallow a goal. I know the rule was hard to read, but in my book it was a goal. When I saw it live, I never thought he was close to the goalie. I never even thought about it. But it was late, too.

6. What's the capital of New Jersey?

Martin Brodeur: Trenton.

7. How about the state bird?

Martin Brodeur: I can't tell you that.

8. Who's the most superstitious guy in this lockerroom?

Martin Brodeur: Randy McKay is always playing with his skates and doing some things that are pretty weird. But for the most part, the guys here are not that bad. A goalie I played with a couple years ago, Corey Schwab, was horrible. He was unbelievable. He wouldn't talk to anybody on game days, he ate some weird stuff.

9. When the schedule first comes out, what's the first thing you look for?

Martin Brodeur: The first game. Florida trips. How many days I have off for Christmas and the All-Star Game. Long road trips so my wife can plan her vacation.

10. What's the best scene in "Caddyshack?"

Martin Brodeur: Anytime the animal comes out of the ground.
