Goodbye, Ray? Bruins blanked in Bourque's potential swansongPosted: Sunday March 05, 2000 12:03 PM
BOSTON (AP) -- Eric Lindros returned to the Philadelphia lineup with a goal and an assist on Saturday as the Flyers beat Boston 3-0 in what could be Ray Bourque's last game as a Bruin. Brian Boucher stopped 21 shots for his second shutout of the season, and John LeClair and Keith Jones had two points apiece. LeClair's first assist was the 300th of his career. Rob Tallas made 21 saves for the Bruins, who are winless in their last four home games and are 2-7-3 in their last 12 overall. Many fans stood and clapped as Bourque was handed the game puck before leaving the FleetCenter ice for what could be his last time. The 18-time All-Star and five-time Norris Trophy-winner, who has spent his entire 21-year career with the Bruins, is reportedly interested in being traded to a contender for a chance at the Stanley Cup he has never won. Among the teams rumored to be in the hunt is Philadelphia. Lindros missed five games with back injuries. Keith Primeau, who assisted on the Flyers' first goal, also returned after missing nine games with a broken rib, and Ulf Samuelsson missed the last nine with a rotator cuff injury. The Bruins were not without their own injury troubles: They learned this week that Anson Carter, who leads the team in scoring with 22 goals, will be out for season because of wrist surgery. He joins Jason Allison and goalie Byron Dafoe, who aren't expected back this year either. The Flyers took a 1-0 lead on Simon Gagne's 14th goal of the season, backhanding the puck into the corner of the net at the 14:42 mark. Lindros made it 2-0 with his 25th goal of the year, deflecting LeClair's pass through Tallas' legs 3:39 into the second. With 3:52 left in the second, Jones knocked in the rebound of LeClair's shot to make it 3-0. The scoreboard went out in the first period, forcing the public address announcer to give periodic updates on the time remaining. The period did not end with a buzzer but with the announcement that "Time has expired."
