CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- The Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks each said Thursday that proceeds from their intrasquad games will be donated to the American Red Cross disaster relief fund.

The NHL canceled all preseason games this weekend in the wake of Tuesday's terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. So the Flames and Canucks will play intrasquad games Sunday instead.

"In light of the tragic events which occurred Tuesday, we have chosen to play our Blue-Silver intrasquad game to give fans an outlet to collectively support the disaster relief effort ongoing in the United States," Canucks president and general manager Brian Burke said.

Fans attending the Canucks game at GM Place also will have an opportunity to donate money to the relief fund.

Vancouver was originally scheduled to play a preseason game at Phoenix on Saturday.

The Flames were to play host to the Minnesota Wild on Saturday and the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that have occurred in the United States this week," Flames president Ken King said.

"With the postponement of our preseason games this weekend, we believe that it is important we use this time to contribute to the relief efforts."

There will be no required admission for Calgary's intrasquad game, but fans will be asked to make a donation to the Red Cross upon entrance.

"Calgarians' response to the people affected by this disaster has been overwhelming," said Shirley Diaz, regional director of the Red Cross in Southern Alberta.

"We are touched by how members of the community like the Calgary Flames have come together in this tragic time to demonstrate their support in their own way."
