DETROIT (Ticker) -- Sergei Fedorov had his third multi-point game of the season and scored the eventual game-winner 6:13 into the third period as the Detroit Red Wings kept the Columbus Blue Jackets winless, hanging on for a 4-3 triumph.

Brendan Shanahan continued his hot start with another goal -- his eighth to go with three assists -- as Detroit improved to 5-1-0 all-time against Columbus, which has yet to win at Joe Louis Arena.

Fedorov's third goal of the season gave the Red Wings a 4-1 lead, but Columbus got goals from Tyler Wright and defenseman Deron Quint on its second and third shots 3:01 apart in the final period. The Blue Jackets had only four shots in the third and finished with 22.

They mounted little pressure on Dominik Hasek over the final 5 1/2 minutes. After pulling goaltender Marc Denis with a minute to play, Columbus spent almost no time in the offensive zone and fell to 0-2-4 this season.

"They had only four shots. I thought we had a good third period," Red Wings coach Scotty Bowman said. "They were in our end less than five minutes."

The Blue Jackets have yet to score more than three goals in a game.

"We had too many guys who didn't compete tonight," Columbus coach Dave King said. "Normally, we are a team that competes. Tonight you could see when we didn't get that from a lot of people, we're not a very good team."

After Detroit took a 2-0 lead 6:52 into the second on Luc Robitaille's third goal of the season, defenseman Rostislav Klesla halved the deficit by scoring on the power play just under five minutes later.

Moments later, Hasek came up with the game's biggest save, stopping a breakaway by Geoff Sanderson, who had just come out of the penalty box. Sanderson also was denied on a breakaway in overtime in Sunday's 2-2 tie at Chicago.

With less than four minutes to go in the period, defenseman Mathieu Dandenault took a pass at the blue line, skated in on Denis and unleashed a blast into the top left corner of the net to make it 3-1.

"I thought we played a good game tonight," Bowman said. "That's not an easy team to play against.

It was the 100th NHL point for Dandenault, who is in his seventh season.

"Somebody told me I should keep the puck because I might never see 200," he joked.

Fedorov gave Detroit a commanding lead early in the third period. He moved in on Klesla, deked the rookie in the slot and beat Denis with a slapper to the top right corner for a three-goal advantage.

"I thought the middle part of the game was the turning point," Wright said. "When you give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-1 lead, there aren't many days that they'll hand it over. If we win games, they'll be by working extremely hard."

Fedorov, who had 17 multi-point games last season, picked up an assist on Shanahan's game-opening tally just under 16 minutes into the contest. Shanahan has registered a point in all six games this season.

"They had no chance to come back," Fedorov said.
