DALLAS (Ticker) -- Brett Hull made a memorable return to Dallas, scoring just under a minute into overtime to give the Detroit Red Wings a 4-3 victory over the Stars. The 37-year-old collected his second goal of the night 48 seconds into overtime by firing a wrist shot from the slot over the glove-side shoulder of goaltender Ed Belfour. Hull spent three seasons with the Stars before signing as a free agent with Detroit during the offseason. He helped Dallas to its first championship by tallying the winning goal in overtime of Game Six of the 1999 Stanley Cup Finals. Detroit improved to 11-2-0, the best start in team history. Hull picked up his first goal of the night at 12:18 of the first period to knot the game at 2-2. After Stars defenseman Derian Hatcher lost control of the puck in front of the Dallas net, Hull skated in on the play and scored on a wrist shot from the slot. Brendan Shanahan followed with his 10th goal of the season 44 seconds later by tipping defenseman Fredrik Olausson's pass as he skated past Belfour to give Detroit a 3-2 lead. But Dallas responded with a goal by Benoit Hogue with 3:55 remaining in the first period. Hogue skated in over the blue line and unleashed a slap shot that tipped off goalie Manny Legace's glove and into the net. Dallas took a 1-0 lead at 4:45 of the first period on a goal by Jere Lehtinen, but Sergei Fedorov scored his seventh goal 58 seconds later to tie the game. Hull picked up a secondary assist on the play. Donald Audette gave the Stars a 2-1 lead midway through the second period by breaking toward the net and putting a wrist shot over a sprawled Legace.
