DETROIT (Ticker) -- The Detroit Red Wings have not had a lot to avenge during their spectacular start this season. But Kirk Maltby helped them get even with the Calgary Flames. Maltby scored the go-ahead goal early in the second period and Luc Robitaille added an insurance tally as the Red Wings extended their latest unbeaten streak to eight games with a 4-2 triumph over the Flames. Detroit is 12-2-1 at Joe Louis Arena this season, but one of those losses came against Calgary on October 10 in the Red Wings' home opener. The Flames played the NHL's best team even for one period, but Maltby and Robitaille scored in the second as Detroit improved to 21-3-1-1. "We went at them more tonight. We forechecked well," Robitaille said. "The line of (Pavel) Datsyuk, (Boyd) Devereaux and Holmie (Tomas Holmstrom) really played well. They set the tone for our team in the first period." Referring to the first meeting, Flames coach Greg Gilbert said, "We played with intensity, we played physical and we played as a team. Those are three intangibles you have to bring to the game every night. And we didn't do that." Playing his 500th NHL game, Maltby snapped a 2-2 tie at 6:09. Goaltender Roman Turek stopped Brett Hull's point shot, but Maltby put in a backhander off the rebound for his third goal of the season. "It's just nice to get the win," Maltby said. "On a personal standpoint, to help the team offensively is nice. But it's just another game we wanted to win. We definitely cut down on the mistakes in the third period tonight. Now it's just a matter of being consistent about it and not taking one game for granted and assuming it's going to come along." Robitaille beat Turek with a one-timer from the edge of the right faceoff circle with 2:56 to go in the period for his 14th goal. The 4-2 lead was more than enough for Dominik Hasek, who stopped all 12 shots over the final two periods and ended up with 19 saves. Dean McAmmond had a goal and an assist for Calgary, which suffered its season-high third straight loss and completed a winless four-game road trip (0-3-1). "It's been a tough road trip, only (one point) out of a possible eight," Flames right wing Jarome Iginla said. "We're going to be going home and we know we've got to get it going again. We would have loved to have this game. It would have been a real boost to get us going. But now we'll just have to get back at it next game." Holmstrom gave Detroit a 1-0 lead midway through the first period, beating Turek with a one-timer from the left circle for his fourth goal. McAmmond snapped a shot from the bottom of the right circle just under the crossbar two minutes later, but Hull put the Red Wings back on top at 14:47 with his ninth goal. Defenseman Robyn Regehr tied it again with 3:20 to go in the first period, ending an 81-game drought with his first goal since November 18, 2000. With Iginla screening Hasek, Regehr scored on a wrist shot from the top of the slot. Turek stopped 28 shots but suffered his first regulation loss of the season. Backup Mike Vernon has been in the nets for Calgary's other four. "The last few games, we didn't play the same hockey like before," Turek said. "Earlier, everybody played his position. But lately, we tried to play a little too offensive. We just have to work hard. If everybody plays his position, we can play better than the last few games."
