ANAHEIM, California (Ticker) -- Jamie McLennan stopped Paul Kariya on a penalty shot, but he could not contain Petr Sykora late in the third period.

Sykora scored twice in the final 4:05 of regulation as the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim salvaged a 2-2 tie with the Calgary Flames.

Calgary took a 2-0 lead on second-period power-play goals by Jarome Iginla and defenseman Toni Lydman and appeared to be on the verge of handing the Mighty Ducks their second defeat in as many nights.

The Ducks finally showed some life when Kariya was pulled down in front of the goal with 10 minutes left in the third period. Awarded a penalty shot, Kariya was stopped on a glove save by McLennan.

But the penalty shot appeared to light a fire under the Ducks, who finally scored when Sykora took a pass from Kariya down low and poked home a rebound of his own shot with 4:05 left.

The Mighty Ducks went to an extra skater in the final minute and Sykora found himself behind the net with the puck. He skated along the goal line and banked a sharp-angle shot off the leg of McLennan and into the net with 31 seconds left in regulation.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere, who was pulled from Saturday's loss to Phoenix after allowing a pair of goals on six shots, made 37 saves and kept the Mighty Ducks in the game until Sykora exploded.

The tie gave the Mighty Ducks 83 points and moved them into sole possession of sixth place in the Western Conference, one point ahead of Minnesota.
