CALGARY, Alberta (Ticker) -- The way Darryl Sutter sees it, the Calgary Flames need contributions from everyone if they have any chance against the Detroit Red Wings . Shean Donovan took his coach's cue.
Donovan capped a five-goal second period with 7:36 to go and the Flames held on for a 3-2 victory over the Red Wings to take a two games to one lead in their Western Conference semifinal series.
Just 40 seconds after defenseman Jiri Fischer lifted the Red Wings into a 2-2 tie with his first playoff goal, Donovan took a feed off the left boards from Marcus Nilson , got away from the check of Pavel Datsyuk and slid the puck by goaltender Curtis Joseph .
"He made a heckuva move," Joseph said. "He had good speed, it was a good cycle."
It was the team-leading second goal of the series for Donovan, who scored 18 during the season.
"Every goal in the playoffs is big," he said. "It was a nice feeling to score that."
Miikka Kiprusoff made the lead stand, stopping all 12 shots in the third period.
"He does a great job of smothering the puck," Detroit right wing Darren McCarty said. "There were some tips in the third, guys were crashing the net and getting a piece of the puck. They're hitting him, but he's swallowing them up, there's no rebounds."
Three nights after he was held without a shot, Hart Trophy finalist Jarome Iginla scored the Flames' first power-play goal of the series. Martin Gelinas added a pair of assists for Calgary, which hosts Game Four on Thursday night.
"I don't think the pressure shifts," Iginla said. "I think it's the same; there's more pressure on them. I don't think that changes."
While Iginla got his first goal of the series, the Flames' other two came from secondary sources Donovan and Stephane Yelle .
"Like I said before, we needed secondary scoring. And that's not critical, it's the only chance we have," Sutter said. "We need secondary scoring and we got that tonight. You look at the two lines in the second period. Both of them, the Yelle line and the Nilson line were dominant."
Robert Lang had the other goal for the top-seeded Red Wings , who have lost three of four road games in the playoffs.
"They played a real strong game, forechecked very hard and threw a lot of pucks at the net," said Joseph, who made 24 saves. "They went in hard, created a lot of opportunities and were rewarded."
Lang opened the scoring 77 seconds into the second period, but Yelle tied it just over two minutes later with a shot from the top of the right faceoff circle that tipped off the stick of Red Wings defenseman Mathieu Schneider .
Iginla ended Calgary's 0-for-11 power-play drought at 5:46 off a centering pass from Gelinas.
Fischer tied it again with 8:16 to go in the period, snapping a shot from the blue line that appeared to hit something before beating Kiprusoff over the right shoulder.
