NHL Preview (Boston-Buffalo) Posted: Fri January 15, 1999 at 9:28 a.m EST Boston (19-14-6) at Buffalo (21-12-6) 7:30 pm ESTBUFFALO, New York (Ticker) -- The Buffalo Sabres, who have slipped into third place in the Northeast Division, look to snap a season-high four-game winless streak tonight when they host the well-rested Boston Bruins. The Sabres are 0-1-3 in their last four contests, losing to the St. Louis Blues, 4-2, on Wednesday. They are just 2-6-1 in their last nine games and have dropped four of their last five at home. Buffalo is three points behind co-leaders Toronto and Ottawa in the Northeast Division and has fallen to fifth overall in the Eastern Conference. Captain Michael Peca remained hot Wednesday, scoring his eighth goal in nine games. He and right wings Vaclav Varada and Dixon Ward have combined to scored 10 of he Sabres' last 16 goals. Boston is playing for the first time since Saturday's 6-3 loss at Toronto, which snapped a three-game winning streak. The Bruins have won four of their last six. Goaltender Byron Dafoe allowed four goals on seven shots Saturday before being replaced late in the first period by Rob Tallas. Dafoe had surrendered one goal in each of his previous three starts. Boston is eighth in the East, leading the New York Rangers by three points. The Bruins trail the Maple Leafs and Senators by seven. The Sabres won the two previous contests between the teams this season, 4-2, in Buffalo on November 3 and, 4-1, in Boston on December 12. Dominik Hasek is 8-2-1 in his last 11 home games against the Bruins.
