ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) -- General Challenge and Old Trieste, the West Coast's leading horses for the Nov. 6 Breeders' Cup Classic, square off Saturday in the $500,000 Goodwood Breeders' Cup Handicap at Santa Anita.

General Challenge and Old Trieste will share the high weight of 120 pounds in the field of six, which also includes Hollycombe, a 5-year-old who has won four of his five starts.

General Challenge, who drew post position No. 3 and will be ridden by David Flores, has been training well under Bob Baffert for the 11/8-mile race.

"It's incredible the way he does it," Baffert said, "and he's just getting better and better."

General Challenge, a 3-year-old, has won $1.5 million from six victories in nine starts.

"He's got so much talent," Baffert said. "I have never seen anything like him in all my years of training."

General Challenge defeated stablemate River Keen by three lengths in the Aug. 29 Pacific Classic at Del Mar, his last start. River Keen defeated the East Coast's top older horses in last week's Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park.

Old Trieste will start from the No. 2 post under Chris McCarron. The 4-year-old has earned $787,944, with six victories in 12 starts.

"He's doing well, everything's fine, and we're ready to run," trainer Mike Puype said.

Old Trieste won four graded stakes by a combined 28 lengths before finishing third to Hollycombe in the Sept. 5 Del Mar Breeders' Cup Handicap while hampered with recurring foot problems.

The field in post position order with jockeys and weights: Barter Town, Victor Espinoza, 114 pounds; Old Trieste, McCarron, 120; General Challenge, Flores, 120; Hollycombe, Gary Stevens, 117; Koslanin, Goncalino Almeida, 112; and Budroyale, Garrett Gomez, 119.
