DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) -- Favored Dubai Millennium won the $6 million Dubai World Cup on Saturday, easily beating American-based Behrens which finished a distant second.

Saudi-owned Public Purse was third in the rich race over the 2-kilometer (1 1-4-mile) Nad Al Sheba course.

Dubai Millennium, owned by Dubai's ruling family Al Maktoum, led from the beginning, with Behrens close behind, followed by Worldly Manner.

Another top contender, Malek, had been scratched Friday with an injury.

By the halfway mark, Dubai Millennium was making it look like a one-horse race, running far ahead of the rest of the field.

Dubai Millenium was ridden by Italian jockey Frankie Dettori in racing to his eighth victory in nine career starts, including two victories this year.

The winner, a British-bred, had his name changed from Yareek for the sole purpose of winning the first Dubai World Cup in the millennium.

Dubai Millennium won six of his first seven starts on the grass in England and France, including the Queen Elizabeth II a Ascot. In his next start, he won the 2-kilometer (1 1-4-mile) Maktoum Challenge at Nad al Sheba.
