Art Major wins Breeders Crown Posted: Sunday October 20, 2002 12:52 AMTORONTO (AP) -- Art Major capped the $6.6 million Breeders Crown card with a wire-to-wire victory Saturday in the $793,650 3-year-old colts pace at Woodbine Racetrack. The Breeders Crown, harness racing's top event, consists of eight championship races for North America's best 2- and 3-year-old pacers and trotters. Art Major, driven by John Campbell, returned $3.60, $2.40 and $2.30 for his 14th victory in 22 this year, and earned $396,825 to lift his career earnings to more than $1.4 million. "He's just a gentleman, he's a perfect horse, he's a sound horse and a 3-year-old could look after him," trainer Bill Robinson said. "He's extremely handy and he's at the top of his game." Second-place McCardle returned $3.40 and $3.30, and Allamerican Ingot paid $5.90 to show. Campbell also guided Broadway Hall to victory in the $754,761 2-year-old colts trot. In the richest race of the card, totally Western upset favored Allamerican Native in the $943,809 2-year-old colts pace. Luc Ouellette swept the first two races, driving Pick Me Up to victory in the $769,206 2-year-old fillies trot and winning with Armbro Amoretto in the $829,047 2-year-old fillies pace. In other races, Broadway Hall won the 2-year-old colts trot, Kadabra took the 3-year-old colts trot, and Cameron Hall won the 3-year-old fillies trot.
