The Hot List Posted: Monday March 20, 2000 06:44 PM
Sports Illustrated's Alan Shipnuck takes a weekly look at who's hot and who's not in the golf world. 1. The LPGA, a.k.a. As the Golf World Turns. Dysfunctional families, cutthroat rivalries, historical drama, perky Swedes -- does it get any better than this? 2. Charlotta Sorenstam. How do you say va-va-voom in Swedish? 3. Tiger Woods. Here's the scary part: It's becoming easier for him. Woods' four-shot victory at Bay Hill matches his largest margin of victory since the '97 Masters. 4. John Daly. First he comes off as a lush and an idiot in an Esquire profile, then he shoots 87 in the final round at Bay Hill. The guy gives white trash a bad name. 5. Briny Baird. He wins the Buy.com Monterrey Open, raising the questions, What is a Briny Baird? Will penicillin cure it? 6. Andy North. The genteel player-cum-announcer wins his Senior tour debut, teaming with Jim Colbert at the Legends, and makes it clear that playing, not announcing, will be his priority. Yes! There's hope! Curtis Strange is only five years away from turning 50!!!!! 7. Jim Colbert. The Strut is back. Lock up the women and children. 8. Callaway introduces a $1,000 driver in Japan. I think I'm going to quit golf and take up heroin. It's less addictive and much, much cheaper. 9. Jyoti Randhawa. The Indian Tiger Woods wins the Indian Open in Delhi. No comment -- just desperate to fill space. minus-10. Davis Love III. He is making a bid for the minus-10 Hall of Shame. From the DL3 manual on how not to make a Sunday charge: Bogey No. 2. Bogey No. 3. Fail to birdie the par-5 4th. Cash a check for a quarter of a million dollars. Repair to yacht to fish. Rinse and repeat.
