  Inside Golf - Alan Shipnuck

Sports Illustrated's Alan Shipnuck takes a weekly look at who's hot and who's not in the golf world.

HOT

1. Phil Mickelson. With a sterling 63, Phil Mick storms to victory at the Colonial. Many players have paid lip service to raising their games to compete with Tiger, but he is the guy who has made it happen. The Mickelson Fan Club membership drive begins.

2. Lee Westwood. Two weeks ago the buck-toothed Englishman was so down on his game he sounded like he was ready to retire at age 27. With a final-round 64 in Germany, he slays Woods and heads to the U.S. Open with a ton of momentum. To coin a phrase: That's golf.

3. Annika Sorenstam. Three late birdies allow Annika to exorcise her putting demons, not to mention the specter of Karrie Webb. Now, about that sponge bath ...

4. Tom Watson. Because Senior events are rarely won by guys shooting in the 70s, lower is better. Watson's final-round 63 leaves him one shy of victory, but hopefully this means he's out of his coma.

5. Golf. Huge comebacks, outrageously low rounds, rules controversies, major starpower -- with this much melodrama, who has time to miss 90210?

NOT

1. Tiger. Kid Dynamite blows up, taking a watery double bogey in Germany to blow a third-round lead for the first time since he was 6 years old (or something like that). I can think of a million reasons why he'll get over the disappointment.

2. Karrie Webb. The business in the bunker was absurd, but give Karrie credit -- she goes down swinging.

3. Stewart Cink. Just when big, goofy guys everywhere were ready to rejoice, Cink spit the bit at the Colonial. At least he's still leading the money list (6'4"-and-over division).

4. The last two spaces have been left blank, in memory of Davis Love III.

5.
