  Inside Golf - Alan Shipnuck

Sports Illustrated's Alan Shipnuck takes a weekly look at who's hot and who's not in the golf world.

HOT

1. Grace Park. Two late birdies carry the rookie to her first victory, at the Kathy Ireland Greens.com Classic. That's so weird. I've long had a recurring dream involving Park and Ireland ...

2. Hale Irwin. With a final-round 65 he takes the BellSouth Senior, the 27th victory of his over-50 career, one shy of Lee Trevino's alltime mark. Wake me when he gets the record.

3. Darren Clarke. With 10 birdies on Sunday he storms to victory at the English Open. What could be more politically charged than a Northern Irishman winning in England? A Euro bird winning the U.S. Open. Beware the Tiger killer.

4. Tom Scherrer. Eight years after losing the U.S. Amateur final to Justin Leonard, Scherrer slays Polo Boy at the Kemper Open for his first career victory. Payback is a Marge Schott.

5. Carin Koch. The toothsome Swede gets her first victory at the Chrysler Open of Europe. How do you say va-va-voom in Swedish?

NOT

1. Mark James. In the midst of promoting his inflammatory new book about the Ryder Cup, James finishes second at the English Open. Hey, Mark, if you really want some ink, try sinking a few putts next time.

2. Gary Player. Trying to become the first fossil to win PGA Tour-sanctioned tournaments in six different decades, Player shoots a 72 on Sunday to blow his final-round lead. Perhaps its time to step up his Metamucil consumption.

3. Juli Inkster. Closes with two late bogies to blow her lead and open the door for Park. That's O.K., Jules, you did the LPGA a favor.

4. Justin Leonard. Held the Kemper lead with seven holes to play, then threw up all over himself with a double bogey at the 12th hole, dooming him to second place. Is that shirt dry-clean only?

5. Davis Love III. Yes, I know he took the week off. I'm just getting my game face on for the Open.
