Sports Illustrated's Alan Shipnuck takes a look at who's hot and who's not in the golf world.

HOT

1. Mike Weir. Is he the best ballstriker in golf, or it is just me?

2. Lee Westwood. Bears more than a passing resemblance to Jabba the Hut, but his game is a thing of beauty. All hail the new king of Europe, and thank god this one actually has proven he can win in the States.

3. Hidemichi Tanaka. The new poster boy for what the World Golf Championships should be about: a little-known world player who, given the opportunity, shined on a grander stage. How can you not love Tanaka, with his 28-inch waist, XXL heart and the manic comic energy of a young Jerry Lewis?

4. Sergio García. La Niña ends his rocky sophomore season with a scorching 64, to tie for fifth. Just goes to show his swing will hold up, for at least one round a year.

5. St. Louis. Next year the AmEx moves here to Bellerive CC, which is sure to attract a stronger field. Because ...

NOT

1. ... Fat and happy Yanks. Five Americans in the top 10 of the World Ranking skipped the AmEx. Apparently these guys like the idea of a world tour -- and all of its filthy lucre -- as long as they don't actually have to leave the U.S.

2. The 17th at Valderrama. I've played mini-golf holes that are more sensibly designed.

3. Darren Clarke. The Ulsterman had troubles of his own -- he played like a dog to blow his lead for the Order of Merit, handing the money title to his buddy Westwood. No doubt he is, at this very moment, drowning his sorrows in a triple-scoop hot-fudge sundae.

4. Colin Montgomerie. After seven straight seasons, his reign atop the Order of Merit is over. What are we gonna do when there's no more Monty to kick around?

5. Tim Finchem. Used to be considered the most powerful man in golf, but not after Tiger stole his lunch money and gave him a melvin in front of the golf world.
