Sports Illustrated writer-reporter B.J. Schecter covers college football and college basketball for the magazine and for CNNSI.com.
While attending Northeastern University (where he earned a degree in journalism), Schecter worked at the Boston Globe covering high school, college and pro sports. At one point, Schecter ran the high school section of the paper, which covered almost 300 schools.
In October 1996, a month after he joined Sports Illustrated, Schecter received his first big assignment: doing behind-the-scenes reporting on the gambling scandal at Boston College.
Schecter's favorite athlete to interview is Larry Bird, and his favorite sports venue is The Swamp at the University of Florida.
Schecter lives in Westchester County, New York. He enjoys playing sports, reading and traveling.
