John Walters is a staff writer for Sports Illustrated. He joined the magazine as a reporter in July 1989 and currently covers college football and the television beat. He writes “SI View,” the weekly roundup of what’s worth watching in sports TV. Walters also is a regular contributor to CNNSI.com.
After receiving his bachelor’s degree in government from Notre Dame in 1988, Walters taught chemistry and coached basketball for a high school in Santa Fe, NM for a year. He has also taught earth science at a New York City high school.
One of Walters’ favorite stories at SI was his January 1998 first-person account of running a marathon in Antarctica.
Walters was raised in Middletown, NJ, and currently resides in New York City. He enjoys running, rollerblading and playing guitar.
