Award-winning sports anchor Nick Charles is a senior correspondent for CNN/Sports Illustrated, the 24-hour sports news network. He serves as a lead reporter at major sporting events and is host of PAGE ONE WITH NICK CHARLES, a show investigating the most current and compelling topics in sports airing on CNN and CNN/Sports Illustrated.

Charles joined CNN one month before it launched in 1980. For almost 17 years, he co-hosted CNN SPORTS TONIGHT with Fred Hickman.

In addition to his work on CNN, Charles co-anchored TBS's COORS SPORTS PAGE in April 1984. Charles also co-hosted Turner Sports' coverage of the 1986, 1990 and 1994 Goodwill Games, the 1991 Pan American games from Havana, Cuba, TNT's studio show for the 1992 Winter Olympics - cable television's first Olympics - and the 1994 Winter Olympics from Lillehammer, Norway.

Before joining CNN, Charles was sports director and reporter at WTOP-AM in Washington, D.C. While at WTOP, he also was color commentator for the North American Soccer League's (NASL) Washington Diplomats and the National Hockey League's (NHL) Washington Capitals.

Charles' sportscasting background also includes stints as sports director at WRC-TV in Washington, WJZ-TV in Baltimore, Md., and WICS-TV in Springfield, Ill., where he began his career.

During Charles' tenure as co-host of SPORTS TONIGHT, the show won CableACEs (Award for Cable Excellence) for Best Sports Information Series in 1986 and 1987. He also won a CableACE for Best Sports Host in 1985. Charles' other awards include Maryland Sports-caster of the Year in 1974 and 1975, and in 1976 he received an Associated Press Award for an investigative report on horse racing.

Charles holds a bachelor degree in communications from Columbia College.
