In the House Mavericks generate excitment in 'Big D'
Now that I've recovered from the Thanksgiving night session with the retired Jayson Williams live in Hawaii and his former teammate Charles Barkley sitting in our studio, we can turn our attention to the week ahead. For the first time in ages, I'm really looking forward to a game featuring the Dallas Mavericks. We've got a Tuesday-night doubleheader on TBS, which begins with the Mavs at home against the Toronto Raptors. If you haven't had a chance to see much of Dirk Nowitzki of Dallas, check him out. He was the ninth pick of the 1998 draft out of Germany. He averaged eight points as a rookie, then doubled that last year.
Against the Sonics a couple of weeks ago, he went for 28 points and 14 boards, and on consecutive trips down the floor, he dunked from the wing in traffic and then nailed a 3. He does everything, and he's 6-11. Oh and by the way, the TBS nightcap that night is a rematch of the NBA Finals, with the Pacers and Lakers in L.A. If you want to show up a little late for work the next day, let me know. I'll write you an excuse. Wednesday night on TNT, we're at the Garden in New York for another one of those ever-popular Atlantic Division collisions. It's the first meeting between the Heat and the Knicks since the Eastern Conference semis last spring. If you want to show up late for work the next day, you're on your own.
Ernie Johnson is in his 11th year as the studio host for TNT and TBS Superstation's NBA telecasts, as well as TNT's live coverage of the NBA Draft every June.
