In the House The 'Lake Show' hits the road
If there was an air of invincibility surrounding the Lakers as this season began, it's taken a few hits in recent days, as the reigning champs lost four out of five. The "Lake Show" hits the road next week, and we'll catch 'em Tuesday night in Miami on TBS. You've gotta love the prospects of a Kobe Bryant/Eddie Jones matchup here. Kobe's been hanging out at the top of the NBA scoring charts, and EJ is one of the best defenders in the league, year in, year out. And riddle me this, Batman: With no Alonzo Mourning, how's Miami going to control Shaq? Wednesday night we're playin' two on TNT, with division leaders hooking up in the opener. Karl Malone and John Stockton collectively have become the Dick Clark of the NBA. They refuse to age. They've led Utah to the top of the Midwest and will square off with Allen Iverson and the Sixers, who top the Atlantic and have the best home record in the East.
And now for something completely different. We've got the Clippers(!!) hosting the Timberwolves in Game 2. This will be a showcase for young talent. Minnesota's 24-year-old Kevin Garnett seems like AARP material compared with the Clippers' Darius Miles (19), Lamar Odom (21), and Keyon Dooling (20). And yes, continuing a season-long theme, the Knicks make it eight straight weeks on Turner with their Thursday night TNT game against the Celtics at the Garden. If you're scoring at home, they're 3-4 in seven appearances.
Ernie Johnson is in his 11th year as the studio host for TNT and TBS Superstation's NBA telecasts, as well as TNT's live coverage of the NBA Draft every June.
