Webb's turning the LPGA into a gimme

Karrie Webb is off to the best start on the LPGA Tour in almost 20 years. The 24-year-old Australian has won three times in six events, with her worst finish a tie for eighth. In 23 rounds, she's shot rounds in the 60s 17 times, with a scoring average of 68.43 that is almost as low as David Duval's average.

The key? A day at testing center in Carlsbad last December in which a high speed camera proved she rolled putts more consistently with her left hand below her right. Since switching to the crosshanded grip, Webb has been dominant.

Takes a major to win THE PLAYERS

The Players Championship may not be a major championship, but the players who win it are major champions. The tournament's 21 different winners have won a cumulative 47 major titles. By the way, no winner of the Players Championship has ever gone on to win the same year's Masters.

Trouble for Europe?

If the final round of the Bay Hill Invitatational is any indication, the heart of the European Ryder Cup team is struggling. Colin Montgomerie, Lee Westwood, Bernhard Langer and Ian Woosnam all shot 79s.

Cure for the yips

If you haven't yet found a cure for the yips, here's a suggestion. "You can get rid of the yips with a heart attack," says Chi Chi Rodriguez, who was stricken last fall but is back playing -- and putting well -- on the Senior Tour. Orville Moody, who also had a heart attack recently, agrees. Both contend that since their episodes, they've been yip-free. But we don't suggest you try this at home.

Sports Illustrated senior writer Jaime Diaz covers the golf beat and appears regularly on CNN/Sports Illustrated and CNN's Pro Golf Weekly.
