An all-Williams affair Posted: Wednesday July 05, 2000 04:52 PM
I wonder if Ted Williams is rooting for Venus Williams. Or if Tiger Williams is rooting for Serena Williams. What about Roy Williams? Is he too busy with his own future to consider the historic Williams doings in that all-Williams semifinal on Thursday at Wimbledon? Is Robin Williams making some kind of Williams joke about it all? Is John Williams composing a Williams symphony to mark the Williams moment? Does Walter (No Neck) Williams care, one way or the other? Whatever happened to Walter (No Neck) Williams anyway? What about Buck Williams? Does he care? Does Jayson Williams, now retired from the Nets, have a different opinion from Jason Williams, still quite active with the Sacramento Kings? Isn't one of them married to Vanessa Williams? No, no, that's Rick Fox. Will this be a happy day for Anson Williams? Is Bernie Williams too bothered by the Yankees' slide to pay attention? What about Jimy Williams of the Red Sox? He certainly doesn't have time. Then there's Matt Williams. And Ricky Williams. And Doug Williams down there at Grambling. And Hank Williams Jr. Is he ready for some women's semifinal tennis? And Esther Williams. Andy Williams. Dick Williams: Will he be wearing clothes while he watches? There's a certain theme here, something important to say, some dramatic point to be made, but I'm darned if I know what it is. Maybe if I were Tennessee Williams...
