Think twice Blazers' Wallace should take his own adviceUpdated: Wednesday March 14, 2001 3:50 PM
Hi, I'm Rasheed Wallace of the Portland Trail Blazers. I'd like to talk to you today about the national problem of road rage. Perhaps you know me. I'm the NBA leader in technical fouls again this season. A year ago, I took the technical fouls championship with 38, an average of almost one every other game. I was ejected a league-high six times. This year I have 35 techs and already have been ejected seven times. I had a stretch of techs in five consecutive games and was suspended for two games and fined $10,000 for throwing a towel at a referee. Perhaps you saw that. My problem, obviously, is that I have a hair-trigger temper and the emotional maturity of a 2-year-old. My friends and family, certainly my teammates and coaches, try to calm me down, but I simply have to react to all injustices, real or perceived. I have a sort of High Plains Drifter, Clint Eastwood approach to life. Cross me and I will have to double-cross you. The road-rage people have signed me as a spokesman because, as you know, all sense of civility is being lost on America's highways and byways and drivers are doing all sorts of strange and aggressive things. You may, in fact, be one of them. My message is simply this: Think twice. Rasheed Wallace may be the driver in that other car.
