Five things I think I think

I like what Cleveland did by picking Warren

Sports Illustrated's Peter King will file another edition of Five Things I Think I Think after the first round.

SEATTLE -- I have heard so much flooey out of the Cleveland Browns during the past few weeks. They were going to take David Terrell, the Michigan wide receiver who has problem child written all over him, if you ask me. They were going to take the top overall pick on a few teams’ draft board, electric TCU back LaDainian Tomlinson. They were going to pick the man new offensive coordinator Bruce Arians thought could be the next Edgerrin James, Mississippi back Deuce McAllister.

But Friday, I heard the most accurate thing about the Browns, as it turns out, from a club insider: "Don’t believe anything we’re saying. [head coach] Butch [Davis] is smokescreening everyone."

Good job, Butch. "Maybe we caught a lot of people by surprise," Davis said after the pick. The Browns, quite simply, picked the best player for their team right now. Gerard Warren has the biggest upside of any player in this draft except for Michael Vick. Warren could be another Warren. Warren Sapp.

I know, Browns’ fans. You’re saying you need offense. You need to help Tim Couch. You will. You’ll get a receiver or back at the top of the second round. Take my word for it: This is the right pick at the right time.

And now for the Five Things I think I Think mid-round.

1. I think it’s 18 picks into the first round, and no corner has been picked, and McAllister is still there. Wooo. Those are the biggest upsets so far.

2. I think Chris Berman has to know better than to enthuse over the Bengals. "Peter Warrick last year, Justin Smith this year. I like those picks!" Berman told his ESPN audience. I like those picks, too. But Chris, you know the truth: They are entering the Bermuda Triangle of NFL franchises. We will never hear from them again, at least in this life.

3. I think this is the biggest reason why New England passed on Michigan wide receiver Terrell, who, I believe, has never been in the Boy Scouts: Would you like your sketchy work-ethic first-round receiver being mentored by that old nose-to-the-grindstone worker bee Terry Glenn?

4. I think you have to like the Santana Moss pick to the Jets. He’ll be the kick returner, punt returner and third receiver, and might, Rams head coach Mike Martz told me, be the best receiver in this draft when all is said and done.

5. I think this pick brought me out of my seat, and not in a positive sense: Casey Hampton to the Steelers at 19. Huh? You mean you couldn’t trade down again to pick up some more lucre, Bill Cowher?
