Five Things I Think I Think -- Part V

IRVING, Texas - Five things I think I've been thinking over the past couple of hours as the draft winds its way through the second round:

1. I think I love what the Redskins did, whether they intended to or not. I had them picking Tulane quarterback Patrick Ramsey in my mock draft at No. 18, figuring they'd never take a guard or someone similarly non-famous that high because of owner Dan Snyder's desire for a "sexy" pick. Well, they got their guy.

2. I think the line of the day came from Steve Spurrier while interviewed on ESPN, discussing his quarterback roster of Sage Rosenfels, Dameyune Craig, Danny Wuerffel and Ramsey: "One of those four will be the starter, most likely, in our first ballgame." Gee, thanks, Steve.

3. I think the answer to everyone's pre-draft question about which player would be the biggest sinker has been answered. It's Pitt wideout Antonio Bryant. Too many questions about his character, seems to me. That's the only reason it could be.

4. I think the Cowboys' emphasis on character was evident in their first-round pick. I met Roy Williams here. Swell guy. Wants to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated really bad. "You have no idea how happy I am to be a Cowboy," he told me. "This is the place I've wanted to be from the day my college career was over. I'm going to bring a lot of season-ticket holders with me from Oklahoma." He made an excellent first impression with the folks here.

5. I think the Panthers are in for a rough time with DeShaun Foster. "On his best day, he's one of the top five players in this draft," Rams coach Mike Martz told me. "On his worst day he fumbles a lot. On his average day he fumbles." Interesting pick.
